I’ve been waiting for this one since I finished Don’t Say a Word. I don’t need to say it, but just in case it’s your first time here, I’m a sucker for a police procedural, a PI, messy family dynamics, and a dang good story. And no shocker, that is exactly what you get here.
Margo is back with Angelhart Investigations and settled in, as much as Margo can actually settle. She has a new relationship that she’s still figuring out. Oh, and she still won’t let the matter of her father’s imprisonment go, much to everyone’s chagrin.
Things move quickly, as they tend to do in these books, and a series of events and killings all seem to center back on one thing: Dr. Cooper Angelhart. The Angelhart siblings, along with their mom and aunt, start working every lead and calling in every favor they can. But now the mission has shifted.
Bring Cooper home.
And we get lots of long-awaited answers here.
I loved that so much of this was set within the VA because normal hospital systems are difficult enough to navigate. Add the federal government into the mix, and you’ve got yourself a real challenge. I also loved the whole medical records angle and the question of how to make a chart disappear. As someone who has worked in a medical records department, I thought this was not only brilliant, but very well researched.
All in all, another fabulous read from the amazing Allison Brennan. I love this series, I love this messy family, and after some of the answers we got here, I’m very curious to see where the Angelharts go next.
