Nine Month Contract is the first installment in Amy Daws’ newest series, Mountain Men Matchmaker, a spin-off of Max and Cozy’s story from the Wait With Me series. The new series centers around the four Fletcher brothers, with Max, the eldest living in Boulder while his three younger siblings have built homes on what’s now known as Fletcher Mountain.

Following a heated falling-out over a woman, the mountain-bound brothers make a dramatic pact to remain single for life. However, Wyatt, one of the brothers, decides it’s time to become a father, just without the complications of marriage. The only problem? His surrogacy agency drops him because he manages to find fault with every potential surrogate.

Enter Everly, Max’s daughter and a well-meaning schemer who previously orchestrated her father’s romance with Cozy. Now, she’s determined to find her uncle not just a surrogate (though she refuses to call her that, preferring incubator) but also a potential partner.

On her way to confront the surrogacy agency, Everly crosses paths with Trista, a woman recently rejected as a surrogate due to her BMI. Everly instantly feels a connection and thinks Trista is the perfect match for Wyatt—both as a surrogate and maybe something more.

Trista, who dreams of starting an animal sanctuary, is driven to surrogacy to fund her goal. Estranged from her toxic family, she’s more comfortable around animals than people. Soon, she and her goat Millie move to the mountain, and what follows is a heartwarming and hilarious story. From unconventional (and awkward) baby-making efforts to unexpected animals taking up residence in Wyatt’s once-empty barn, the novel delivers laughs, tender moments, and slow-burning romance.

This is, of course, a romance novel, so no spoilers here but expect twists, emotional depth, and a well-earned happily ever after for Wyatt and Trista.

One notable addition is the author’s thoughtful note on surrogacy and the research behind it, which I appreciated. For those sensitive to themes of fertility and family planning, a trigger warning may be appropriate.

This book is ideal for readers who enjoy:

🩷Grumpy x Sunshine

🩷Small town romance

🩷Age gap

🩷Curvy FMC

🩷Found family

I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I do wish I’d read the Wait With Me series beforehand, as Max and Cozy are the leads in Book 5 of that series. But don’t worry, I’ll be diving into that one next. And you don’t need to read it first to love this book (and series!)

Stay tuned for my reviews of Books 2 and 3 in the coming days—I binged the entire series and now just need to catch up on writing the reviews! The fourth book in the series is set for release in May 2026, and you can bet I’ll be first in line to grab it.

RED HOT READ ALERT: this book is sexy sexy! It’s also available on KU, which I always love Thank you to the author, Harlequin Trade Publishing | Canary Street Press and NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book!

Book Review: Malibu Burning by Lee Goldberg

If you love morally complex characters, smart heist plots, and high-stakes action, Malibu Burning is your next must-read. The first installment in Lee Goldberg’s new Sharpe & Walker series blends crime fiction, firefighting drama, and an undercurrent of redemption into a tightly woven, page-turning thriller.

Told through dual timelines and perspectives, Malibu Burning introduces two compelling leads: Danny Cole, a former convict and skilled con artist with a surprising moral code, and Andrew Walker, a former U.S. Marshal turned arson investigator. At first, their stories seem disconnected — one plotting a heist in the chaos of a wildfire, the other chasing suspicious fires across California. But as the flames spread, their paths collide in a way that’s both explosive and unexpectedly emotional.

This was my first solo Lee Goldberg novel (though I’ve read and enjoyed his collaborations with Janet Evanovich), and fans of the Fox and O’Hare series will definitely feel at home here. There’s the same slick pacing, clever plotting, and banter-driven dialogue, but Malibu Burning adds a darker, more grounded edge that really works in its favor.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the book is its focus on California’s inmate firefighter program — a system that feels ripe for both praise and critique, and Goldberg handles it with a mix of realism and empathy. It gives the story an extra layer of tension and makes Danny’s motivations feel all the more believable. He’s a morally gray antihero you can’t help but root for, especially as his plans veer from revenge into something far more complicated.

The stakes are high — wildfires rage, a cartel closes in, and the line between right and wrong blurs as the story builds to a cinematic climax. But what elevates this book beyond a typical thriller is its heart. Amid the crime and chaos, there are genuine moments of sacrifice, redemption, and even a spark of hope.

Whether you’re here for the action, the character dynamics, or the Robin Hood-style justice, Malibu Burning delivers. It’s smart, fast, and fiery in all the best ways — and it sets up the Sharpe & Walker series with serious momentum.

The Malibu Burning is out now! You can grab your copy here. The whole series is available on KU for both ebook AND audio!

I usually try to keep my book reviews spoiler-free, but that’s going to be difficult with this one—especially if you haven’t read the first two books in the Raisa Susanto series. So if you’re new to the series, pause here, go read The Lies You Wrote and The Truth You Told, and then come back. I’ll wait.

You’ve been warned: this review contains info from earlier books, and this is not a series where each book stands alone.

This is book three in the series, which follows Raisa Susanto, an FBI forensic linguist who also happens to be the sister of one of the most infamous serial killers. FBI forensic linguist Raisa Susanto thinks she’s through with the past now that her psychopathic serial killer sister, Isabel, is locked away forever. Then Raisa receives a letter from Isabel. It isn’t much, but it pushes Raisa back into what she thought she had already finished. Now, Isabel is dead, and their other sister, Delaney, is has vanished. As the investigation unfolds, it becomes disturbingly clear that Isabel had a protégé, even while behind bars.

Raisa is manipulated into solving Isabel’s murder, and the deeper she digs, the more evident it becomes that Isabel’s influence hasn’t died with her. She also worries that Delaney is somehow involved. From beyond the grave, Isabel still manages to pull strings—controlling and warping the lives of both of her sisters.

Told through multiple points of view—including Raisa and Delaney’s perspectives, as well as blog transcripts and diary entries—this book is packed with twists and tension that absolutely deliver, just like the previous two installments.

By the end, it feels like Raisa has completed a compelling character arc: she’s come to terms with who she is, who Delaney has become, and who Isabel truly was. Still, I really hope the series continues. The unique blend of police procedural and thriller, told through the lens of forensic linguistics, keeps the narrative fresh, intellectually engaging, and emotionally layered.

📌 Final Thoughts:

If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers with complex sibling dynamics, forensic detail, and emotional depth, this series is a must-read. Just be sure to start at the beginning to truly appreciate the journey. As always, I recommend reading the book yourself and forming your own opinion.

On sale now, you can grab your copy here! Bonus, the whole series in available in KU for both ebook AND audio!

Book Review: The Temporary Wife by Catharina Maura

Oh hey bookworms, are you back and ready for more of the craziness that is the Windsor Family? Because our favorite family is back with oh so much more drama. You thought marrying your fiance’s little sister was bad? Well, our friend Luca here is about to marry his secretary!

Luca runs the financial end of Windsor Enterprises and Val is his girl Friday, his secretary that was assigned to him by his grandma 8 years ago. Things get turned on end when Grandma Anne announces that it’s Luca’s turn to get married to someone who is completely wrong for him.

If you haven’t yet picked up the first book The Wrong Bride, I highly recommend doing so before diving into this one. You can read my review here. While each book in the series can stand alone, the story lines and character arcs make much more sense when read in order. Plus, if you’ve read any of the author’s other series, you’ll enjoy spotting the familiar faces that make cameos throughout the books.

The Temporary Wife picks up shortly after the events of the first book, with a bit of overlap to set the stage. Luca has had his secretary, Valentina, by his side for eight years, and their bond has only grown stronger over time. However, with his older brother Ares now married Luca’s own situation becomes more complicated. The Windsors’ formidable matriarch, Grandma Anne, traditionally arranges all the family marriages. After allowing Ares to get engaged for love and dealing with the consequences, she’s determined to take control again. Even though Luca and Valentina are clearly perfect for each other, Grandma Anne has already chosen someone else for him. The story unfolds as Luca and Valentina attempt to navigate the challenges of going against Grandma Anne’s iron will. Specifically by getting married. Luca appears to believe that if he’s already married Grandma Anne can’t marry him off to someone else.

I won’t give away too much because this story is best experienced without spoilers. But trust me when I say it’s absolutely phenomenal. The characters, especially Valentina, are compelling, and the chemistry between her and Luca is electric. Valentina’s strength and resilience make her a standout character, and the way the author brings their relationship to life is truly exceptional.

The author’s writing shines throughout the series, creating a world of powerful men—billionaires who run Windsor Enterprises, a conglomerate with vast interests across media, real estate, and tech development. Then there are the women who bring them to their knees. With five brothers and one sister, the series promises six books, each focusing on a different sibling. Luca and Valentina’s story was the one I was most eager to read because their dynamic just feels so right. We caught glimpses of them in The Wrong Bride, and it’s clear that Grandma Anne knew exactly what she was doing when she placed Valentina in Luca’s orbit eight years ago, despite her lack of experience and status as a college dropout. As the story develops, we discover that Valentina’s ties to the Windsors go far deeper than just her position as Luca’s secretary.

As always, read it for yourself and tell me what you think!

RED HOT READ ALERT: this book is sexy sexy. Don’t be fooled by the pretty cover this book is a scorcher.

💖 Enemies to Lovers

💖 Opposites Attract

💖 Slow Burn

Plot Twist launches today! It’s a fast-paced rom-com packed with some of my favorite tropes!

Siobhan Harris is an inexperienced romance writer, just trying to make ends meet. Recently ghosted by her boyfriend and stuck in an unaffordable apartment, she’s down to her last shred of sanity and nearly her last dollar when a book offer changes her life.

Marcel Dupont, a narcissistic asshat, ended his phenomenally successful thriller series by killing off its hero in a tantrum. His fans are outraged, and so is his publisher. He’s obsessed with keeping his identity a secret, remaining a faceless author.

Forced onto Twitter, the first thing the social media-naïve Marcel does is start a feud with Siobhan. With her star on the rise and his on the decline, the publisher decides they need to collaborate on a romantic thriller.

Cue the drama. Sparks fly, tensions escalate, and as they get to know each other, they both discover that there’s more to the other than meets the eye. The writing is sharp and witty, and the banter between Siobhan and Marcel is outstanding! Initially, I really, really disliked Marcel, but I eventually grew to love him. Siobhan, however, had my support from the very start! Also…potential 2nd book with Paige and Alex 🤔 🧐

A huge thank you to the author, the publisher Amazon Crossing and NetGalley for sending me this amazing book for my review. It’s on sale now and you can pick up your copy by clicking here.

Book #2 in Marni Mann’s Hooked series follows the second of the Hooked boys Grayson after a paparazzi scandal. With the company in jeopardy due to his poor choice of words, he’s forced to face his biggest fear: commitment. In order to restore his reputation, his business partners decide he needs to get married. They hire an image consultant who picks the perfect fake wife. Too bad Jovana also happens to be one of his infamous one night stands. And the one night seems to have an impression on both of them.

I absolutely LOVED this book! It was flirty, funny, sexy and absolutely HOT 🔥. Grayson is a complete 🍆 most of the time, and I think it’s great how Jovana not only doesn’t put it up with it, but she sets him straight. She’s convinced she’s going to be the one who changes the forever bachelor.

I loved the twist at the end (didn’t see that one coming) when it turns out Jovana is also hiding a secret of her own.

With a HEA and the promise of Holden’s story in book 3, Mr. Wicked won’t disappoint. Bonus: both the ebook and audio are available in KU!

💫 𝑆𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑑 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑟 𝑡𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡,𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑜𝑛 𝑡𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 ✨

Hooked is the first book in Never After Series of retellings/reimagining. I picked this up awhile ago thinking it was a straight up retelling of Peter Pan, which is one of my all-time favorite books and my very favorite Disney movie. I put it to the side when I realized that it was a dark romance reimagining. I wasn’t in the headspace for something dark at the time. Recently, I ended up listening to this as an audiobook.

McIntire did a great job creating a villain I was actually rooting for. Yes he might be a murderer and monster, but he’s also extremely loyal to his friends and those close to him. It seems like everyone close to James has disappointed him or betrayed him at some point. Even at the very end. It was really cool how she intertwined Easter eggs from the original Peter Pan book and the movies.

The twists were phenomenal! There was one I feel like I should have expected but didn’t see coming. Another of the twists I had a nagging feeling about through most of the book and it proved to be right.

This is definitely a red hot read with many a spicy scene. Reader be warned this book is a dark one. I’m off to read a cozy or two and maybe a rom com before I’m reading for book 2.

Hooked is out now, and BONUS, it’s on Kindle Unlimited for the ebook and the audiobook! Get a copy here.

RED HOT READ ALERT: this book is hot hot hot. A very spicy 4 peppers (maybe even 5). There are lots of sexy scenes along with some messed up ones. Please check out the author’s website here for the trigger warnings.

The Lies You Wrote By Brianna Labuskes

If you’re a frequent reader over here at Feed The Bookworm, you know I’m a huge sucker for a good police procedural thriller. I think it’s because I read a lot of detective stories when I first discovered my love of books. This book came out of nowhere for me. If you’re a fan of Women’s Murder Club and Stephanie Plum, I can guarantee that you’ll love “The Lies You Wrote” by Brianna Labuskes. This was a one-day read for me and marked my first book of the new year. Throughout the day, I switched between the audio and Kindle versions, depending on my activities. I love that both the Kindle book and the audiobook are in KU.

The book centers around Raisa Susanto, a forensic linguist for the FBI. Side tangent – I didn’t know a forensic linguist was even a thing before this. Prior to reading “The Lies You Wrote”, my dream book job was event planner for a billionaire’s consulting firm (can you tell I’ve been reading a lot of romance books this winter?), but now I want to be a forensic linguist and play with words all day.

Raisa is tough, smart, and wily, raised on the streets and in foster care after losing her parents. She’s a loner in the FBI, with no partner and one of only two linguists, so she gets farmed out to other departments. She’s quick with her words and pulls no punches

She’s paired with Callum Kilkenny, a broody, gruff, and seasoned FBI forensic psychologist to investigate a copycat killing of a crime committed 25 years ago. So far, so good, very straightforward. Now throw in a true crime podcaster snooping around trying to get a scoop (Jenna) and a police informant cyber wiz who has inserted herself into the case (Delaney), and things start to get interesting.

Raisa is coming off the loss in a tough case, where her conclusions led down the wrong end, and things went badly. Callum is renowned for his capture of the ABC killer 10 years ago, however it also came with the loss of his wife, who was targeted by the serial killer before Callum brought him down. Now the must figure out if they’re dealing with a copy cat killer, or if the real killer evaded capture decades ago.

This book was such a twisty, turn-filled, and captivating mystery. I always pride myself on being able to figure out “the twist,” but this book had so many it was like whiplash. Where in some stories this could be considered overwhelming, it all makes perfect sense in the context of this book. I was able to kind of figure out the mini twist, the buildup to the big twist was great, even though I kind of saw it coming.

Labuskes is a master wordsmith (I am trying to figure out a way to use psycho-killer stabby man in every day conversation somehow), her prose is witty, engaging, and fast-paced. The book made me laugh, kept me reading, kept me guessing, and most importantly I cannot wait to read the next book. I’m so happy that it’s going to be a series. The romantic thriller lover in me is hoping for a little romance between Raisa and Callum. In the mean time, Labuskes has a robust backlist to enjoy, many of which are in KU. I’ll be happily reading all of them while I wait for The Truth You Told, due out September 10, 2024. On sale now, you can grab your copy of The Lies You Wrote here. This awesome book is available on KU for both reading and listening!

Thank you so much to the author, Brianna Labuskes, Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC copy of this book. The Lies You Wrote is out now, and available on Kindle Unlimited and Kindle Unlimited Audio. You can grab your copy here.

The Spy Coast By: Tess Gerritsen

I want to start off by saying that Tess Gerritsen is one of my all-time favorite authors. I discovered her late in my reading lifetime and I’ve been working my way through her catalog ever since. The Rizzoli and Isles series is still one of my all-time favorite series (so much better than the TV show IMO) and her standalones are also phenomenal. Gerritsen obtained her MD before switching to a writing career which lends authenticity and credibility to her writing.

We all know that I am a sucker for a great police procedural thriller and The Spy Coast certainly does not disappoint.

This is yet another book with dual timelines (they seem to keep popping up in my TBR) as we meet Maggie Bird, who has gone by a number of different aliases throughout her life, but who now resides in Purity, Maine, as a chicken farmer. Her life as a CIA operative is long behind her, or so she thought.

Our story opens 10 days prior, with Diana, one of Maggie’s old CIA colleagues escaping with her life after an attack, but failing to find out who is trying to take her down. Then we meet Maggie, hunting down a fox that has gotten into her henhouse.

This turns out to be the least of her problems when a woman who visited her earlier in the day ends up dead in her driveway. It appears that one of her old and still-classified cases has been compromised, and her name, along with others, has been leaked. The Spy Coast takes us around the globe and flashes back to 16 years ago to events in Malta right before Maggie left the CIA firmly in her past. But as we all know, the past does not always stay in the past, and Maggie’s past seems to be out to get her.

I enjoyed this book very much and I’m really hoping that based on the ending of this book there will be another, and that this will turn into a series. The side characters are phenomenal. They consist of a group of other, retired CIA agents who all reside in Purity, Maine. And the poor police chief Jo, who seems competent and smart, just to be outwitted by The Martini Club. The twist in this book is something I certainly did not see coming. The end leaves more questions unanswered than answered, which usually bugs me, but in this case, I don’t mind.

P.S. – In taking a look at the author’s website it looks like The Martini Club will indeed be a new series! I’m very excited and cannot wait for more adventures.

A huge thank you to the author Tess Gerritsen, NetGalley, and Thomas and Mercer for the ARC copy of this book.

I love that we meet Maggie while she’s after a fox in the henhouse. And she explains to Callie that even though she kills the fox, another predator will move in to take its place. Much like Bella, who has now assumed her father’s place.

So now let’s talk about this planet crash. There were supposed to be 8 people on board. But we know two didn’t board the plane. Maggie and Bella. Our girl Maggie seems poised to enter into a romantic relationship with Declan, who I’m sure has lots of his own secrets. BUT is Danny really dead?

Here’s my theory- Maggie did indeed fall victim to the honey trap, and Dr. Danny was indeed a double agent, or working for the Russians. But who knows. Only time and Tess will tell..

I was late to the game discovering Ana Huang, but thanks to TikTok, I’m now better informed and all caught up. I devoured the Twisted Series way too quickly, so imagine my delight when Damon made his appearnce in the debut of the Kings of Sin series.

And I have good news and bad new about the series. The good news: This book is amazing, unputdownable (is that a word? If not, it should be) and is one of seven based off of the Seven Deadly Sins. The bad news: This is the only book out in the series so far. Womp womp. So we’re going to have to wait.

If you’ve read the Twisted Series, you’ll remember Damon from the debacle with the painting and some other quick cameos. It seems like this book overlaps some of the last book of Twisted and we get some cameos by those characters which I love. Damon is blackmailed by Vivian Lau’s father into marrying her to cement the family’s social standing. It seems Damon’s brother Luca has gotten himself mixed up with a forbidden mafia princess, and Mr. Lau has decided this is the perfect way to marry off his daughter and escalate the family into the upper echelon of society. Too bad Damon and Vivian mix about as well as oil and water.

“Missed me?” Amusement lengthened his drawl. “As much as a sailor misses scurvy.”

This is my favorite quote from the book, because it sums up Vivian in one quick comeback. She’s smart, savvy and witty. However, she’s tethered to her overprotective and somewhat abusive parents who only value Vivian for what she can bring to the table from a monetary stand point.

As per usual, the twist is great, and we get our hard fought HEA. I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest of the series. I actually preordered book number 2, which is something I rarely do. So I’ll be over here, patiently waiting until April.

Tropes hit: Arranged Marriage, Enemies to Lovers, Billionaire Romance

RED HOT READ ALERT: this book is sexy sexy in typical Ana Huang style. Not quite the full five ghost peppers, but don’t be fooled this one will leave you blushing.
